After learning how to fish for shad today and successfully catching a few 4 pounders I kept a few and decided to chunk for momma bass in the CT river
Fished from 8pm till midnight. lots of catfish enjoyed the shad from 4lbs up to a chunky 11 pounder! but the first fish landed was a very nice 35 inch 16 pound linesider! I also had sandworms but the dink cats and eels were stealing them so I used the chunks instead.
So you just bounce a shad dart along the bottom and set the hook when you think you feel a hit? Do you need additional weight on the line because of the current? I've never caught a shad and would love to get one. Wink

Peco if you want to catch shad use willow leaves. Silver or bronze. Anchor up under 91 bridge in windsor area in the middle of the pilons. Use inline weight about 3/4 oz. And you will catch at least 50 shad in a day. Get rdy though. They can fight pretty hard in the current. Ill even use a 3 way setup with a 2oz. Teardrop weight.

I tried fishing behind Loomis chaffee school but found tons of poison ivy plants near the mouth of the Farmington so I was limited to where I could fish from shore. I wish I had brought m kayak that day. Confused
