After my baseball team beat Hartford Public 15 to 2, I decided that a good way to end the night would be to try and catch some channel cats at Lower Bolton. However, once I arrived at my usual spot, there were already 4 cars there, and that is WAY too many people for me in one spot. I almost decided to just not go fishing, but I figured it couldn't hurt to screw around and try for some bullhead at Middle Bolton instead. Within a few minutes of arriving, I caught 2 bullhead, the second of which was actually larger than I'm used to, as it came in a little over a pound. I did switch to a black Jitterbug for bass after that, but all i caught was a dinky 10 incher.
The picture doesn't quite show it's true size.

Nice man! I love bullhead. I put the kayak in Upper Bolton Friday. Skunked. That place is literally nothing but lilly pads. I bet it's fun for topwater in the summer. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

I was wondering about that. The only time that I fished Middle Bolton, it was already late in the Summer and Upper Bolton looked like it was so choked with weeds it was unnavigable. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

There were fish jumping all over the place but I couldn't keep anything from hanging up in the pads. They are super thick on the entire lake already. A weedless frog on the top looks like it could be idea. Are there any decent fish in there? _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

I find brown bullheads to be fun fish on light action setups. |

Nice, Ryan and I have each caught a couple of fish from shore there but they've been real small. I can't wait to start throwing topwater. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

Lower Bolton is where I sometimes go to target yellow bullheads for the smoker. An hour after sunset gives a two hour window of non-stop action there. Michael are you talking yellow or brown? _________________ i'm a castaway with no fishing pole, and the fishing hole is just a cast away |

where to fish from shore at LOWER/?
ive parked and taken my kids to the " boat launch " area - never expected much action there
worth it to stay to the right all the way down to the beach, tossing off the shore, or must you float it to have any fun? |

I've fished along the walk by the boat launch. Saw a few bass in there but never got any bites. One time I was there a man with his grandson were throwing bobbers with worms and getting some action right at the launch. I'm sure there are plenty of panfish around. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

You have to park your car off Vernon rd, there is a little gravel area you can't miss it. You can then fish lower and middle Bolton and fish the other spillway. I think the other side gets a lot of pressure _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"
Can i be a fisher of fish too?

Upper bolton is amazing in the summer. Nailed several 4+ pounders there last summer and few nice pickerel. Running poppers and torpedos just fishing the gaps. |
