High tide for Bridgeport was scheduled for 12:25pm Friday and saw harbor temps have been ranging from 53 to 55 recently. First stop was Fayerweather Island and the jetty around 12:45pm.
Stuck with my trusty original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-10 as I tested a 7' MH Daiwa Procyon freshwater rod. Didn't get any hits as I made my way to and from Fayerweather. Casted on both sides and also tried throwing a chrome Skitter Pop SP-9 into Black Rock Harbor. Never saw or smelled any signs of bait and fish.
Next stop was the cannon. Nothing happened there and there were lots of marshy sticks in the water.
Gave it a break by heading Downtown and later going to Remington seeing there was only 1 car parked there.
Waded out on the sandbar with hip boots and followed the tide out. Caught a 15" striper and had 1 swirl in front of me. Saw a few breaks here and there.
Stayed out on the sandbar and made my way in before calling it a day around 8pm.
Starting around sunset I saw stripers breaking on the surface. Couldn't get any to hit a topwater or FLR-10.
Plan is Saturday I bring my waders, 8 footer, and bigger plugs and arrive between 5 and 5:30pm and fish til 8 or 9. |
