Figured with temperatures hitting the 70's today I needed to get the kayak out on the water for the first time this season. I planned on going to Mansfield Hollow in the am sometime, but got a late start. I was on the water at 2 and the sun was shining bright. There wasn't much wind and I decided to fish the big part of the lake. I went all along the left half of the lake trying to find fish. I threw spinnerbaits, JSR-04, Senko, Spoon, and a jig. I kept looking for places I might expect to find fish and every time I got to them I was disappointed. The only fish i saw all day were 3 large schools of sunnies. I got a few nibbles on the Senko but not much more to report. I got off the water at 5:30 after a nice, but frustrating day. Through the course of the day there were a lot op people fishing the shoreline near the boat launch, but I don't think anyone caught anything.
I think I've just about had it with Mansfield Hollow. I've fished it 5 times now and got 2 bass one time. I don't know where they hide, and I think I've spent enough time floating around searching. I'll be trying out the Bolton Lakes next time I head out I think. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

I went to Mansfield Hollow once and vowed to never go back again lol. I didn't really feel that place one bit. It seemed there were more dead fish on the shore than in the actual water. |

There are three spots where I've found largemouth bass in the upper part of Mansfield Hollow: the culvert where the Fenton River enters it in the northwest corner; a submerged stump near the northeast corner; and the little island on the west shore. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Did you guys see the pic that On The Water shared (I think it was originally posted by CT Fish and Wildlife) on facebook recently? Massive pike from Mansfield Hollow caught and released by biologists sampling fish populations. Must be a decent amount of fish in there to support pike that big. |

I fished the island as well as all the coves on the West side of the upper lake. If the wind didn't pick up in the later afternoon I would have kept going up toward the river. It became more work than it was worth to keep going when I wasn't even getting a hint of a fish.
I saw the picture of that pike. Wow that's massive. I know there are fish in there, but I'm sick of getting skunked. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

I think its one of those places that youre better off fishing off shore structure witha depth finder. Ive been a few times, and when I took kayaks I had two bass to show for the day throwing everything at the shore. But I did go before it actually opened without realizing it and landed one keeper from shore, I have been back since and nothing. I honestly prefer eagleville lake much more and have defenitely had some good shore fishing there and cant wait for a kayak trip there _________________ Top 5 Favorite lures: Boo-yah Boo jig, Zoom Horny Toad, Rapala Husky Jerk, Berkley Power Worm, Senkos |

I hit around the shore a lot because when you look at it, there are so many great looking places for fish to be sitting. There are trees in the water all over the place and I have no idea why there aren't fish there. I knew that I get caught up banging the shore in my kayak a lot so I made sure I spent plenty of time casting all over the place. It didn't matter. Couldn't get a thing. Eagleville is definitely on my places to get out on with the kayak though. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

I just fished lower Bolton yesterday.
There were some good catches among a bunch of people.
It definitely is worth a shot this time of year.
The flies and bees were killer along the shore though. |

Hate that place, been there a few times and nothing but dinks were caught.I have done tournaments and the same thing. I have been told there are bigger fish but so far I haven't seen any. |
