Fished from 2pm-6pm, mainly in the upper Shepaug arm without a bite for 3hrs. Finally we decided to fish some docks on the eastern shoreline and got a small keeper SMB on a blue/black hair jig in 10-15 FOW. My first fish on Lily in three trips this year...not my favorite lake but it's just down the road, so it's easy. We continued to fish the same dock and I get a nice hit after fipping the same jig to the edge of the dock. She makes a couple runs and I'm hoping for a nice sized smallie, finally get her to the boat and it's not a smallie! My first ever pike. 35" and some nice girth to her...didn't get a weight. Fished for another hour without a bite, but that was OK.

Im sorry but you couldnt tell the difference from that and a SMB! Must have been a lazy Pike as the few Pike Ive caught were smaller then that and immediately I knew they were no Bass!

I've caught some big smallies that have fought almost as hard. Never having landed a pike, and not in that mindset, I was thinking smallie.

Congratulations on getting such a nice looking northern pike, especially for your first. Wait'll you get your second; it'll be a monster. Very Happy

well i guess mine just have full stomachs then. Im not saying its a bad fish but its skinny for being 35" long. It looks like the girth of something 25" long would have.

A 37 inch northern pike that weighs 11 pounds isn't skinny! Shocked Male, maybe, but not skinny. Wink

Congrats on your first pike Brandon!! Pike is practically the only freshwater gamefish I've never caught in CT.

Congrats on your first Pike, that's a very respectable first!

Pike are fun, many time you can when they curl and give that long thrash. Either way congrats!
