I went fishing alone at Lower Bolton at night on Monday. The plan was to stay late and try for some bullheads or channel cats. However, right off the bat, I nailed a bass that weighed in at 1.15 pounds. It was short, but a little chubby. I ended up targeting them until 8, when I put out my catish rig. After waiting 10 minutes, I reeled in a bullhead. It was pretty slow so I went home after that. I will probably try again on Thursday. I got a picture of the bullhead but it was kind of blurry.
Here's the bass
This morning I went to the same spot with my friend. We got there around 6:20. We were using shiners, and it didn't take long to get into a school of black crappie. We each caught 10 fish, but he got the big one. Near the end, he hooked a fish and immediately said, "Dude, this one is way bigger." By that, I thought he meant it was a 11 ouncer (we had been catching 7 and 8 ounce fish). However, I was shocked when he reeled in one much larger than expected. I weighed it and it came in at 1.7 to 1.8 pounds. The picture doesn't quite do it justice. That's me in the picture. Obviously, I was pretty excited for him!

I had no idea Bolton had crappie in it I have been there probably 2 dozen times maybe, and never caught one. I was at that spot last Saturday and didn't catch anything after that cold front we has.
Good job!

Since I live so close, I've been to Lower Bolton enough times to find that some baits almost never work. Greenish senkos almost always get hits. On summer mornings the largemouth love the black Jitterbug that I use, more often than not. We were using shiners when we caught the crappie though. But I went again today with my friend. I caught a largemouth that weighed in at 1 pound 11 ounces with a senko and my friend caught a 1 pound 13 ounce pickerel on a senko. Personally, I like going for the cats the most though. They really start biting cutbait or nightcrawlers around 9 PM. _________________ Early to bed, Early to rise, Fish all day and make up lies! |

I always sike myself up and say I am going to go night fishing, I have not been yet! I know they stock it with channel cat fish I have never caught one though. I just bought a boat so Lord willing, life lasting I will be going out there in a couple weeks. _________________ "Come after Me, and i will make you to become fishers of men"

Night fishing is definitely worth a try there. A channel cat that's even just 4 pounds puts up a great fight. _________________ Early to bed, Early to rise, Fish all day and make up lies! |
