Got into the water at Remington with my waders on starting around 6:45pm. One surf fisherman who I've become familiar with was already out there wading.
2 lures I stuck with were the same ones that were producing on the Housy on 12/3/12, which were pearl grey shiner Flat Rap FLR-16 and chrome black purple Max Rap MXR-15. Setup was a Star Rods Aerial 8 footer, 3rd gen Penn 5500SS, and 17 lb Sufix Tritanium.
Not much was going on until it got darker and the sun went below the horizon. 2 other wading surf fishermen who I've been seeing in the evenings came by that time.
I got a nice hit on the FLR-16 closer to shore as the tide was still going out. The hit was one of those hard solid bites without any head shaking or pulling.
Followed the 2 surf guys out with the tide. One had a few hits here and there with an SP Minnow and the other tried throwing a Super Spook but had no explosions. I landed a short 12" schoolie with the MXR-15 and also lost what seemed to be a bluefish no bigger than 10" right in front of me! The 2 surf guys then left because 1 of them didn't bring gloves and his hands were cold.
I kept following the tide out and the familiar face came back after having to make a call on his cell. He threw the SP Minnow out there.
Later I lost a keeper on the FLR-16. Set the hook on it and had it on for about 10 seconds before it spit the hook as I let it start to run. Didn't want to force it in.
The familiar face man had 2 striper hits on the SP Minnow and said he was getting other hits that he could tell was his plug hitting bigger bait fish. I got 2 more of those aggressive hits on the FLR-16 and had a swirl in front of me when taking the lure out. I was feeling those same bumps against the bait too.
Both of us started making our way in and casted towards the discharge and popular point. He had 1 hit on the SP and 1 explosion on a popper. I took a mullet Saltwater Skitter Pop SSP-12 out but never got any explosions or swirls.
Both of us called it a night and walked back to the parking area together around 8:45pm and got to exchange cells.
Nice guy named Jose who is a smart surf fisherman and caring person. Not like many other Bridgeporters who poach, joke, drink, lazy chunking, tease, don't know what a plug is, etc. He was impressed with the action and looks of the Max Rap and Flat Rap. Asked me where I got it and how much I paid. Told him about the deals on Ebay and also about the price for a Sargus 6000. He right away said he'll buy from me if I get more of the good deals. He said he wants to get into those 2 Rapalas.
Surf fishing wasn't as good as Saturday but still had some action. Couldn't tell if the bait our plugs were bumping against were shad, herring, or bunker. The fish I lost and said looked like a bluefish hit the lure right in front of me before right away jumping out of the water and doing 2 more shaky jumps before losing it. |

The sandworms are out fishing lures 6 to 1 right now from my experience. Not bad for chunkers |

Hit the same area again this evening.
Caught a 14 to 16" fish with the MXR-15 and had 3 solid hits with the FLR-16. Had an explosion when I went to take the FLR-16 out of the water. |

I feel happy for you to have a car and get to fish places with a nicer environment very often.
Me fishing Seaside Park and the Remington factory often results in witnessing people crossing lines; chunkers letting their bait sit without paying attention as they drink and brag; people not knowing what a lure is; many stripers ranging from 14 to 20 inches taken; buckets full of snappers by 1 person; people asking how I'm catching fish; threats made; chunkers taking a bird that gets stuck in their line; Middle Easterns netting anything they can find; etc.
Those are what I'd call your average Bridgeport surf fisherman compared to people like you, FF, and me. The new guy I've become familiar with and site member junkie live in Bridgeport and are smart and caring about the sport like you. Those fishermen are rare in Bridgeport. |

Hey Michael I grew up in Hartford and fished the CT river most of my life. I've fished around non-English speaking fishermen that use can's with mono that have actually out fished me, and never have been threatened in anyway. A fisherman asks you how your catching fish and you have a problem with that? I thought real fisherman educated those that are unfamiliar. If all of this is going on where your fishing why don't you A: stop going to those spots, or B: instead of complaining and making insulting comments, REPORT IT! _________________ Bad fish! Not like going down to the pond and chasing bluegills and tommycod. This shark, swallow ya whole. Little shakin', little tenderizin', down you go. |

Good post catch&release. People go fishing for different reasons. To some, it's their source of enjoyment to fish bait on the bottom and drink beer with their buddies. Nothing wrong with that. No need for the broad generalizations. I guess you've never fished a piece of bait? |

I do educate the fishermen there but they seem to not want to learn cause I see those same ones never doing what I taught them.
I know I should stop going to these spots but my problem is I only have a bike to get around locally. If I had a car I wouldn't bother with Seaside Park.
The more I report it to the local ENCON, the more threats I'll get. City and Park police don't want to have anything to do with the state and environment. |

I've never fished a piece of bait and have no problem with the better chunkers such as iversonbaby.
The chunkers I see often at Remington cross everybody's line without reeling back in. I recently had an experience with some chunker. He casts a line out there with a piece of bait and gets drunk while talking and bragging to everybody else. One evening he had his line out on the sandbar while the tide was low enough for fish to not be where his bait was. As I walked out on the sandbar, he said to me, "hey nigga, don't you cut my line! I'll drown you!". The guys I've been seeing wading in the evening have had many problems with him.
To anybody who says I should stop fishing the Remington factory, it's either I stop fishing there around this time of year and not catch any stripers, water warms up fast enough to catch stripers at nicer areas of Seaside Park, or fellow CTFT fishermen help me get out to better fishing environments. |

BTW- I've decided from now on I'm only gonna wade out there later in the evening, which is when the crowds aren't at Remington. |

I guess worms don't count as bait.
1) Started off by looking for worms so I could try and get into some suckers.
2) Headed over to Bunnells Pond Sunday evening looking to get into some channels. Brought 2 medium action setups with me and bait was dead silversides that have been sitting in the freezer for a while. Also played with worms.
Fished the old cement wall facing north from 4:30pm til 7:40pm. All that happened was 1 hard hit when a large nightcrawler hit bottom. Nothing happened with the smelly bait.
3) Before leaving I decided to throw worms out to the bottom at the same spot I was hitting some fish at this past winter but never got any hits.
Headed down to Beardsley Park and casted the worms from the old cement wall facing up the Pequonnock. Had 2 hits with 1 of them being a 7" yellow perch.
Nothing else happened after that so I went to the Wonderland of Ice and tried drifting worms there but was surprised to not have a single hit knowing all the aggressive redbreasts in there.
There's a spot I fish that's over an hour from where I live, and if there is someone fishing on the bottom when I arrive, I'm out of luck. Either I wait till they leave or I drive home. That's part of the game. |
