I'm still waiting for the local harbor temps to hit that 50 degree mark. These cool temps and NW winds aren't cooperating! |

yeah rods used today where 7.5 foot med action "pier" style rods (a bit stockier than a regular rod) with 12lb big game or 20 lb power pro braid. I wanted to be prepared if a 20+lber decided to say hi... I am not a fan of getting caught with my pants down gear wise. so these schoolies weren't really the strongest of fights. with the larger 17" fish were pretty fun tho |

2 ML rods I have for throwing smaller plugs for when smaller fish are around are a 3 piece 7 foot traveler's Okuma Nomad Inshore and 2 piece 7'6" Okuma SST Salmon. I enjoy throwing those smaller 3 to 5 inch plugs and crankbaits.
I'm a surf fishermen who'd rather get into quantity while freshwater fishing is quality. |

agreed while on the beach ill use these same rods along with a 10 foot okuma Sentara with 80lb power pro. if im throwing poppers or spoons ill use the mono ( on a 7 foot Berkley med heavy action) I like the stretch. if im after flounder/fluke. im using the freshwater setups (ugly sticks) and etc for smaller game.. far too often ill be at the pier using a trouth setup and moby dick decides to eat half a bloodworm...and I then but I am a believer in not having overkill... like 200 lb test and 12 foot surf rods for things like ct river for holdover bass HAHA |

The 3 piece Nomad I was using during the November run last year at Seaside Park rigged with a Penn Pursuit 4000 and 10 pound Sufix Tritanium mono.
Had a good time landing stripers up to 21" 6 pounds with that setup while throwing Rapala lures such as SSR-9, CNR-8, and FLR-10.
Haven't tried the SST yet and have a 4th gen Penn Spinfisher 440SSG on it with the same line. |

FLR-10 is a very nice rapala and I keep 2 in my bag always. same as at least 1 5inch husky jerk in brown/gold and a 4 inch perch shallow lip crank. I love Rat-L-Traps but that's a whole different thread |

I was killing the taylors, fluke, and sea robins at Penfield Reef last year in the late summer with the FLR-10 and that's the lure that got most of the November stripers. Love how it can cast for a balsa and is a perfect lure for a ML setup. |

With water temps ranging from 45 to 47.5 today combined with warmer temps tomorrow and continuation of the W and SW winds, would you say soft plastics or plugs? |
