Ryan and I fished a small tourney today, Morning started out with tear jerking cold and the 60deg Sunny weather forecast never happened. Winds picked up with gusts to about 30mph. Water temps were averaging 43deg. We spotted big bait balls and fish following in the finders but couldn't get them to hit. Spotted some floating shad around the bait balls. Tried to match the hatch and no luck.

Ryan and I fished jerk Baits, Drop Shots, Jigs ect and only had a few bites, No takers. I actually had a small blow up when my Scatter Rap (Don't Believe The Hype) hit the water. I almost put the spook on.

I had five spots picked out to hit. We launched a 7:00am. Another club launched at 7:30. Every spot had a boat on it by 8:00am so after that it was hit or miss.

Four bags out of 10 fisherman were had with my club. 9.7lbs the largest. 4.2 the smallest. Largest fish Small Mouth at 3.67 pounds caught on a Cabin Creek Grub with a 1/4 oz ball jig. Second largest at 3.59 lbs caught on a Silver Buddy. All other fish caught on 1/2oz Black Hair Jigs. All fish caught in 10 to 15 feet of water.

The season is picking up slowly but surely. I just have no experience in cold, windy weather.

We needed wind screen. It was good to see some of the guys lift some big smallies today, There was no set pattern to clue in on. The white caps were rough. I was glad we were in the Skeeter. It rode nice at 45mph.

I have to agree. I felt bad for Ryan! I worked my butt off trying to maintain a steady course. The last hour and a half we searched for cover from the wind. Headed to the small bay just before the island. The wind pushed us a half mile up stream with out the trolling motor.

last year was my first time owning a boat in many years nothing special a tracker bass boat with a 25 horse - fits my needs for now and really got it for my son! WE WERE ALL gong ho about having a boat last april - anyway we ventured out on a day that was like sunday (maybe a little worse) we launched from the town ramp AND IT WAS BRUTAL but decided to tough it out! (i have to laugh to keep from crying) after about 2 hours of just pure hell we decided that WAS IT! as we came out of the shepaug arm and headed to the ramp the motor stalled and would not start - all i had was the front trolling motor heading into the wind! --- it was just the pits - but we managed to make it into the canal heading for the state ramp! a little better but not much - left the boat and walked to my car at the town ramp drove back! AND SWORE I WOULD NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!! -- but the strippers were calling me so like a STUPID IDIOT we went to the housy sunday --- AGAIN I WILL SAY!!!

Hi,

This was the kind of Wx that I had to deal with many times during 35 years at sea.

This is exactly what a New England Nor'Easter is like off the coast ......really Brutal! Shocked
