Today was a very long day but finally paid off at the very last stop i made. I went to ablout 5 different places today.

First was in East Windsor at the Rt140 bridge, it was freezing with that wind whipping and i didn't stay there very long, maybe 15-20 minutes max. Caught NOTHING

Went to Barber pond on Bloomfield\Windsor. Caught Nothing

Went to Reservoir 3 in Bloomfield, its on the backside of a Golf Course. Caught Nothing

Left there and went to Rainbow Reservoir in East Granby, Caught NOTHING

Went back to East Windsor Rt 140 still caught nothing.

Finally went to Thompsonville Boat Lunch and was casting out a blue and black football jig with a yum crawdad which was also blue/green standing on a fallen tree that was partially submerged into the river. As I am dragging the bottom I assume that I am snagged on a rock or limb when this rock starts moving and the fight is on. I end up landing my personal best small mouth bass about 17 inches long i think and I am guessing about 3lbs I went to weigh it but i found out my digital scale battery had died Embarassed

These things should be checked prior to your first day out Mad

The picture really does the fish no justice. Its a terrible picture, my hands were cold and I didn't have anyone to take the picture for me.

Nice fish. Do you fish bloomfield often? I'm moving their in the next few months, not far from the Simsbury/West Hartford lines (I'm from Simsbury), looking to see what are the good local spots their.

As weird as it seems I actually live in MA, I live in springfield but do a most of my fishing in CT. I will be honest there are not a lot of great places that I know of in Bloomfield only the places I went today which are only places to pass the time.

Rainbow reservoir is only about 10 minutes from Bloomfield roughly. That's in east granby.

just want to throw this out there, im pretty sure barber is closed till opening day, think res 3 is also,

rainbow is supposed to be open, but gate was locked Friday... messed my plans all up. I ended up going to t-ville but only had time to work on the trailer

Are you using heavy rods on the CTR? I finally hit up the river for the irat time since moving here and felt extremely unprepared. I had 2oz weight that was being swept down river, and my rod was constantly bobbing from the flow. I had a MH 7' rod. Just curious to what gear you guys use on this beastly waterway

I saw you casting at rainbow- I was in the red astro. It was awful, didnt get bit till 11am and i was fishing by 715.

Squeaked out 5 smallies from 1 1/2-3lbs on deep rock- I slammed through that cove real fast looking for shallow largemouth in the wood but nothing happening in less then 15fow.

Hey pickle I didn't know barber pond or reservoir 3 was stocked, I live in Springfield, I didn't look at the Ct guide before I went out. Most of the time I am catch and release anyway, unless my wife requires I bring some fish home if I be out all day.

Stevius I use a medium heavy 7'0 as well, it's field and stream, are you using bait or lures? The thompsonville boat launch area was a lot calmer, I think there is dam up there somewhere.

Nick were you throwing a jerk bait working the edge? Tat cove always looks like it will hold fish because of that deep pool, but I have never been successful there.

I was tossing a jerkbait most of the day. The cove didnt look good as soon as I got into it- its all shallow and the channel coming in was only 5ish feet deep and crystal clear.

Really only went in there to check the shallow brush- ive found that largemouth often move up even in 40degree water and sit in the brush in >2fow and warm up. Usually they dont eat in the middle of the day but it gives you a good idea where to try earlier in the day (such as the "channel" leading into the cove). Needless to say I didnt see a single fish of any species in the crystal clear water at rainbow. I did mark a half dozen beautiful stumps where big largies should stage before moving onto that big flat between the coves in 5-7fow.

Rock was the key for me. Should of poked around more in 20+fow while I was there. Seems like the clear water has them out deeper.

The best spot I saw/found was right to the left of the ramp if your looking out. Directly out from the sandy spot- theres a gorgeous rockpile there in 10-15fow. Its right on a drop. Less then a cast out with a football jig too.
