Hit the hole in the pp canal with bait targeting bowfin to no avail. We caught two huge bluegill and a bullhead. I did however see a couple bowfin coming up for air while we were there, so I was at least assured they are in! This was Saturday, it was cold and windy. Sunday my father went back down there and fished the cove instead he landed a pike on my ultralight with 4 lbs flouro haha.

mep21 (aka Mark) and I didnt see any bowfin in the canal on Sunday. We did see a couple of northern pike and heard about one or two more.

Hey, jimbojonez, the fish in the photo you posted is a chain pickerel, not a pike. Wink

I was just gonna say that is definitely a CP.

Still a fun catch on 4 lb fluoro. I was out once heading towards cromwell cove fishing senko's on lite 8 lb fluoro when a pike hit it. Got it to the boat, ~28 inches. Couldn't believe it didn't break the line.

Are bowfin sporting or hard pullers? I never caught one. Just curious.

no Michael they fight like an eel or a catfish. I hear they love Rapala's but can chew them up. Like literally. Here's a pic of what they can do to a wide gap haha.

I don't know whether I really saw a couple of bowfin gulping air in the Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Plant Canal, today, or whether I'm really suggestible and you just made me imagine it, jimbojonez. Laughing

That hook reminds me of what I've seen online from fish such as gator blues, giant muskie, 100 pound catfish, and monster stripers!

Peco, I thought the same thing when i saw the first one pop up. The second one I saw however, was directly in my line of sight, and I saw and heard its mouth clamp shut. I suppose it could have been a cat or bullhead mouth. Let's say for the record, I saw what I believe to be bowfin surfacing for air.

They're in there. I posted a report.
