I have a cast net that I have used many times for golden shiners. I can find a large school of them and when I throw the cast net, I never seem to get any and Im not sure why...any suggestions? |

I dont use cast nets but here are a few things that popped into my mind: Does your net have heavy enough weights? Is your nets diameter too small so the fish are fast enough to get away? Are you casting your net correctly? And of course, do you have a big gaping hole in your net!! |

retrieve the net rapidly after casting it on school to close the loop before they swim under it _________________ I Love to fish......Not a big fan of sitting in the boat alone ....the Conversation and the company make it perfect |

Ive tried everything not sure why I cant really get em, and if I do its 1 or 2 at a time. There usually at the top when I throw it and I collapse it quickly but still no luck. |

Is this a fine mesh or possibly the nets holes are too big and designed for bigger bait? _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

sounds like your doing it right there just faster than the net is..I dont net bait in CT so im not sure the rules you will need to check but up home in Maine when we net smelts we thow a small handful of course ground corn meal to group them up and keep them busy while we cast nets into the stream _________________ I Love to fish......Not a big fan of sitting in the boat alone ....the Conversation and the company make it perfect

We definitely need spell check on this forum.
Some people's spelling and grammar are the worst I've ever read.

I would think the sink rate is too slow, those little devils are quick.
Use a rod/reel and catch them with spikes. You obviously have the the hard part down, locating them. |
