Never had the "pleasure" of catching one. Seen a couple small ones in the shallows but I guess they must not be as common in Fishers Island Sound. Don't often fish with bait either.

I've seen huge populations over the past few summers compared to what it used to be like. Sometimes you might even see sea robins thick in shallow areas while the tide is still low. Last year I had a day surf fishing Penfield Reef and caught over 20 arh arh fish without a single bluefish or striper.

When sea robins are thick and you are reeling one in, you can see another 2, 3, or 4 of them follow the fish while you're reeling it in. If the sea robin comes off of the hook, another sea robin will take over right away.

Yeah michael, last year i fished a lot at penfield, and black rock,,,, just like you said every cast i was landing one of this suckers, Have any one of you guys caught oyster toad fish, coz here in ny you catch a lot of them. They are some what similar looking to sea rob.. and you hook tons of them as well and getting the hook out is a pain in the butt coz they just dont open their mouth with their dog like teeth.

Throw bigger plugs and you won't get as many Robins! You'll also weed out the smaller fish!
