Decided to give the 3 ponds a break and headed out to the Mill River TMA Monday. Got to the pool around 2:15pm.
Stuck with my trusty brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6 for a while. Had 2 swipes, lost 2, and a number of followers. Landed 4 browns and 1 rainbow. Things then started to slow down so I played around with a few other lures, which included shad Shallow Shad Rap SSR-5, purpledescent Clackin Minnow CNM-7, helsinki shad Husky Jerk HJ-6, and 1" soft plastic crayfish rigged with a 1/8 ounce hot pink jighead. Had 2 swipes at the HJ-6 and 2 hits on the crayfish.
Eventually moved down to 2 other spots. One produced 2 browns and the other didn't show any signs of life. Both browns were caught on the FLR-6.
Hit the road around 5:30pm.
Fish ranged from 9" to 11". Best fighter was an 11" rainbow and the acrobatic one was a 10" brown.

trout are not like bass and do not handle lipping very well. If your letting the fish go, its best to hold them in a rubber net and lift for a picture. Air exposer is very bad to. If your in a TMA then proper stewardship is very important. |

Good post and link. Rapala makes a nice wooden and rubber mesh trout net that won't break the bank and is available at places like Dick's. _________________ RNA - It's in my blood.

This is another good article. I am not trying to bash, but i learned something good here. They mention boga grips. And i thought that they were a good idea to protect the fish in all cases. I now know its not so.

I also can relate to the fly fishing mentality, i get a lot of them that look down there nose at me and my spinning trout setup! There is so much to learn about our finned friends. |
