casted a small Mepp's Aglia from the post office waterfall on Kensington Road to the back of the fire dept. on Farmington Avenue in Berlin. I caught my first fish of the year just past the train arches, a 14" brown. |

thanks fellas. I apologize for not getting a picture. my shop is across the street from there, and i held the fish in my hands nervously trying to decide whether it was worth running it back there to get the shot. the fish said "get over yourself dummy, i can't $%^@ breathe!" _________________ i'm a castaway with no fishing pole, and the fishing hole is just a cast away |

i caught one on the post office side last March as well, I thought it was a salmon until just now looking at the picture it was just a young brown trout. It didn't look like a holdover though, I think it got there from Hatchery Brook. I have caught many fish in Hatchery and always assumed they were salmon ... now i'm not sure if any of them were. _________________ i'm a castaway with no fishing pole, and the fishing hole is just a cast away |

You'd know if it was a salmon cause it would be a heck.of a lot stronger!. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

around 12 years ago? When the Lion's pool was still open, a worker accidentally discharged the pool into Hatchery Brook. The incident was in the news because it killed over 2,000 fish most of which were salmon. I just assumed that the fish that are in there now are mostly salmon. I'll have to go there and catch a few more and give them a closer inspection. _________________ i'm a castaway with no fishing pole, and the fishing hole is just a cast away |

The most noticeable difference is that the salmon will have a forked tail and the trout will have a more square or rounded tail. |

Listen buddy, you better read the DEEP Angler's Guide and obey the rules. I stock the Mattabesset every year and I also live in the area. I'm sick of catching people fishing before the season on the Mattabesset and Belcher. I'm through warning people...I'm calling the C.O.s from now on. EnCon and the Berlin Police Dept. have been briefed on the problem in preparation for next year. Pretending you were fishing for fallfish (referencing another post by you) will not be an acceptable excuse. Obey the rules and don't be an asshole. |
