After yesterday's rain one of my favorite local ponds (in Groton) is pretty much ice free, so I went this afternoon for a bit. Tried with a suspending jerkbait for a while with no luck, so I wound up fishing the edges with small stuff and got a good selection of sunnies, bass (up to a pound tops), yellow perch, crappie, and pickerel. I knew there were perch in there, but it was the first time I was able to catch one in this pond. What wound up working well for me was dropshotting a bright pink powerbait trout worm. Random, yes, but it was the only little plastic I had with me. |

Even though they were mostly just sunfish it was nice to have some good action after a few slowwwww ice fishing outings this winter. |
