After I dropped my wife off at the Amtrak train station in Kensington, this morning, I drove past the cul de sac at the end of Old Brickyard Lane. I didn't see any "No Trespassing" signs at the head of the path that leads to the "Route 9 Ponds" between TigHitco and Grady Automotive. Very Happy

Railroad and Paper Goods. I saw a bunch of holes and a ton of foot prints on Railroad pond from people fishing either this morning or last night. I just spent about a half hour down there jigging by myself. I got one fall fish but I got off the ice because I was alone and the ice kept making a ton of noise which turned my stomach into knots. Around 4-5 inches of clear ice though. Pretty thin on the edges though. 1-2

Peco- maybe somebody took them down? I know I've seen them around before.

sorry i didn't get online much yesterday... the small ponds by the station are LOADED with crappie, and ice is the best time to hit them. those particular ponds are relatively clean as well. 2 years ago my cousin and i set up shop on those little ponds. we had tip ups spread out on both ponds with very active medium shiners and in two hours not a single fish got hit. while we were waiting we got bored and drilled a hole to jig. one hole one line and we caught a crappie for every spike we had. sorry i just wanted to qualify b4 saying just jig with spikes. we also did the same thing on the stop n shop pond. the one with the fountain. nothing hit our tip ups but instead of jigging we packed up and hit the latter ponds i was discussing. I am willing to bet the crappie bite would be as good at the stop n shop pond/s if one jigged with spikes there. all four of these ponds freeze up fast due to no moving water, but proceed with caution as the ice around here took a beating. Amtrack owns some of the land where these and the rt 9 ponds are. If you cross railroad tracks to get to any of these places you have trespassed. I have never been bothered by Amtrack or Berlin Police fishing these places.

You know I was just thinking about those ponds by stop and shop today. I've fished both of them a long time ago in the summer. The one with the fountain was really shallow compared to the one without the fountain. Both had a lot of fish but the fish in the pond without the fountain were ALOT bigger if I remember right. Maybe we should try there soon.

As for the two ponds near the railroad tracks.......I honestly didn't think any ponds in Berlin were clean especially the ones around the clay ponds

Yes, there are a lot of crappie in there. Big LMB also. I question the cleanliness of the water though. Although it looks clean, I always assumed all the oil from the wood & tracks ends up in the water from runoff when it rains. But then again that's just my assumption. Be carefull for snakes over there!!!
