I was going a little stir crazy, so I went to Countryside Park here in Avon to do a little bit of ice fishing. From 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, I drilled about a dozen holes all over the upper pond. I found nine to 10 inches of ice almost everywhere, with two to four inches of crap ice on top of five to eight inches of black ice. The only thinner ice I found was on the north end of the pond, where the brook that feeds it flows in, and even there I found six inches of ice with only one inch of crap ice on top of five inches of black ice. I didn't set any tip ups and jigged only a waxie tipped 25 millimeter Hali Ahven jig. I found fish only in the deepest water in the center of the pond, which is mostly 12 to 14 feet deep. I ended up with one yellow perch and five sunnies, all of which were tiny Confused :

Well, at least the ice was good. Rolling Eyes I need to get out on some open water, soon! Wink

Sorry, but that's why I can't get excited about ice fishing. I may as well go drop a line in the biology lab at school. I'm picking up my boat 3/2, and I want open water!

No apologies needed. I feel exactly the same way. Wink

Tip ups baited with shiners are your best bet. I have been ice fishing 6 times this year and my total is 75 fish. Multiple 3,4, and 5 pound bass. Even a 6 pounder at Congamond.

Geez, thanks, guys! Rolling Eyes I redeemed myself by boating some schoolie stripers, today. Very Happy I'll post a report.
