I am in eastern ct and i have taken my son out twice and skunked both times. i have ice fished for many years but havent been able to get out for a few years. I remember getting so excited and hooked as a kid when the flags started poping.

I know its not all about catching fish but i dont want my little buddy to get skunked anymore. anyone know of any spots like avery pond or wyasup lake where there is some good action? trophies not required. thanks in advance.

I have no experience with the area I am in the southeast. There are a bunch of lakes nearby does anywhere have ice right now that you know of? Billings Lake, Amos, Anderson Pond just from looking at a map.

I don't see many reports on CTFishTalk from the eastern part of Connecticut. Most the the fishermen on here seem to be from the central or western part of the state. For me, it's usually a special occasion when I head out that way. The fishing must be terrific in the east with the lack of fishing pressure. Laughing

pickerel lake (although weedy) is infested with Slime Darts, has some good crappie, and also has good bass... Adjacent to that, you have Moodus.

Ive never drilled it, but Bashan is a decent fishin spot too big perch, small mouth, and large mouth bass in there, lest we forget Halls way east...good bass.

IF you can deal with a CROWD, BEACH POND is another good lake, and you never know what you might catch in there...

Headed toward the shoreline Uncas and Amos are fun lakes to sip cocoa with the kids while waitin for a flag. CHECK the CT book !! some of these lakes have slot limits and closed dates...

We don't have much as far as Trout, and Walleye go but your right, I have not had a day here in a very long time where I get skunked. Something else I don't see a lot in here is we catch 3,4,5 pound bass threw the ice pretty regularly. Biggest this year was a 4.3 on Red Cedar. Out of 6 trips I have been able to make this year, I've caught about 30 bass myself, and a bunch of crappie and perch. So ya the east sucks nobody should come over here Cool

First: get large shiners-NOT Medium or small. Trust me. Unless you're jigging. A great spot to take the kid would be breakneck if you like hiking together. Try setting your flags off the large rock on the right hand point in about 6-9' of water-stay off the weeds and I assure you a day filled w/ pickerel. Or you can try the back coves of mansfield hollow in about 4-8' of water for a mixed bag of perch, bass, pickerel+even pike. Do NOT walk across the south end of mansfield channel to fish coves though. I've drilled 10+" in back coves; walked 50 ft. out toward the channel& drilled paper-less than 1' of ice that moved in waves like the water it stood upon-Now I walk the long way to those back coves until it's been REALLY cold. Stick to my depth reccomendations in those spots + you guys will get some flags-maybe nothing big-but definately lots of fish.

Beaver Brook Pond in Windham, if that is East enough, is small, easy access and always had holdover trout from DEP stocking, as does the brook itself. Beach pond? i think it is gets a whole lot of trout dumped into it, if you are that far East I would ask around here and Ice Shanty about it.
