Where do you like to set your baits using tip ups? Some say off the bottom some say a few feet below the ice.

Hi,

Depends on what fish you happen to be targeting.

General rule of thumb for the following is ....
Walleye -> Just off the bottom
Trout -> They're roamers so they can be on the bottom, mid-water, or just under the ice.
Stocked Atlantic Salmon -> Just under the ice to mid-water.
Crappies -> Mid-water

Good luck - Have Fun,

Hi NA,

For those, I recommend just off the bottom !

Tend to prefer the warmer 39 degree bottom water.

If you know where any underwater springs happen to be at the waters you fish, try there or as close as you can.
Spring water normaly comes out of the ground at 53-54 degrees.
Those can be hot spots and be very productive !

I have caught almost every fish through the ice and I fish my shiners 2 feet off the bottom.
