I've been told that the Route 9 ponds are now posted 'No Trespassing", from Old Brickyard Lane, at least.

You may be able to fish some of those, just be careful, the warm rain really opened some places up, and with the cold temps tonight they may refreeze making it difficult to tell how much ice there is, you might go from 4-5 inches to 1-2 within a few steps! Shocked

Who knows who put those signs there, lol, if its anybody important they would come and kick you off, right? (the property owners in the coldesac fish that place with their little boat, maybe they put the signs there to deter people) -Dan

The edges of all the ponds around Berlin REALLY took a beating from the warm weather. I checked silver lake and paper goods pond on thursday after the warm weather and silver lake had maybe 15 feet of open water from the boat launch. Paper goods actually looked a little bit better with not so much open water. Then today I went and checked paper goods again. I put my foot on the edge and it instantly cracked. So i'm just taking a guess that silver lake still needs a few days to harden the edges. I'll take a ride there tomorrow to let you know since its only a minute down the road.

Oh, and those no trespassing signs have been up for a while. I've never had a problem.

By "down the tracks from the station", do you mean south? If so, the first pond is Railroad Pond. Here's the last report on it:

The other pond is Paper Goods Pond. Here's the only report that mentions it:

If your talking about Railroad pond and Paper Goods pond I am VERY familiar with them. I learned to fish on those two ponds and spent countless hours during summers fishing there. I'll send you a PM if you wanna know more.

No, the ponds I am talking about are north of the station,Maybe 200 yards. There are 2 ponds with maybe 12ft of land separating them.

I just found them on google maps. Sorry but I've never fishing either of those two. That's another local spot I have to check off my list this summer now Smile

Hey Guys,
I have checked this morning a few ponds here is the report
Silver lake is open all over there is no safe ice
Beseck in Middlefield is the same open water all over the edges have about an 1" of ice
Coventry lake still has open water but the 2 coves have good solid 5" black ice be careful getting on the edges still a bit open in some areas.
I could not any safe ice in the Berlin area. The Brick yard ponds are very deep and always the last to have safe ice.
Thanks Zoltan

Checked two smaller local ponds in berlin today. The ice is actually looking really well. 4-5 inches of black ice everywhere except the edges where there is maybe 2
