I get my mealworms from the pet store. They come in bulk for feeding reptiles and whatnot. I don't remember the exact price and quantity, but I think they are about 1/10 of the price of retail mealworms at bait shops. Speaking of frugality, Ocean State has hand-warmers in bulk at a deep discount, again I don't have the exact price, they also have ice cleats (cramp-ons) for $5. |

The spikes that came in the Danbury area were hit or miss dead or alive. Same thin in Mahopac NY _________________ Oh man... you got Onzo'd! |

Yeah, I haven't been able to find waxies lately, only mealworms, perch don't seem to care, just pinch them in half.
As for frugality, I read a mag advertisement today that asked, "Why spend more on thousands of shiners when you can buy a MILLION at a fraction of the price!" They were fry, feeder fish for stocking your farm or backyard pond, or for hours of fun at parties when you empty them into the top of the host's toilet.
They showed a guy picking up a large clear bag next to a pond, so I guess you can fit a million shiner fry in a garbage bag. What I wondered was who counts the fry? Do you weigh them? Eyeball it? Just send it out? I dunno. _________________ "Fish now, answer questions later." |

Those handwarmers at Job Lot suck. The ones at Walmart are way better and actually work. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

I use a ton of spikes, so I bought mine in bulk, 1000 for $20 shipped from grubco.com. I know cto sells them for $15, and may stop there for my next 1000 and try out a lake/cove in the area. Be aware that they start dying after a few weeks, so it's only a half season solution. _________________ PB LMB: 4lb 13oz

targets would be perch, crappie and bluegill. I've mostly fished with size #12 hooks or tipped a spoon or rapala jig with the spikes. I've also caught a few bass, pickeral, shiners, and a bullhead, though they've not been the targets. _________________ PB LMB: 4lb 13oz

they sell these at the Asian Supermarkets. Frozen ground cucumber. I tried them because i hadn't bought ice fishing bait yet and they were in my freezer from the summertime (you can eat them). Got a huge bass within minutes. They are big and cheap and put a big cloud of protein in the water. http://newschoolkaidan.com/getemono-ryori/ |
