Here in western CT it will be in the in the 20's during the day and teens to single digits at night starting Tomorrow till next Monday. So one week of nice cold temps Lets all hope the expected "chance" of snow does not damper the ice to badly. I really hope this helps everyone on/with the ice. Im super excited. TO THE ICE! *points and leads the way!* Laughing

The ice is doing good now so the new weather will just make it better. I like having 1-3 inches of snow on the ice that way we have some snow to put on the shanty so wind doesnt get in and under and that we have some cushion above the ice.

I myself dont like snowy white ice. Im a big fella. Extra weight isnt something I need haha. But the addition of optional iced over lakes/ponds. Im totally ok with this. Even psyched!

1-3" of snow will probably blow off most lakes anyways with the temps low. That amount is nice since it gives you a little grit to walk on and early in the season it covers the black ice so you don't spook fish. What sucks is what we had 2 years ago, with snow and refreeze for 6 inches before you got to any ice. I hate punching my way through that crap to walk to a spot that is usually a breeze to get to.

Opposite for me, i got a heavier wood sled with skis on bottom. So it sinks in the snow making it hard to pull. Its easier to pull on ice but id prefer snow. Less slippery, no spoking fish, snow to go on the shantys flaps, and it looks cooler in my opinion.

I have the burn barrel on skis for that, affectionately known as the "ski bum." Can't say I'd be to comfortable without it on cold days, just for the use of warming your hands, let alone cooking chow.

These cold temps are supposed to stay around for a while. February is said to be a whole lot different compared to December and what we've had so far this month.

But then it's a whole new ballgame in March!

Similar to that pattern we had in 2009-2010 where ice wasn't 4" on most places until after New Year, got much colder in February, but then a big blast of warm air came in early March melting the ice fast as it stayed warm.
