Sorry for the late report but I hit Pachaug on 1/8/13 with 4 friends. We set up a bunch of tip ups in a cove some for pike others for anything, but all baited with shiners. AT 430 pm we finally got a flag and pulled up a 4.3lb largemouth bass, pretty happy since its my largest bass of 2013 so far. If you guys want I posted the pic on a Facebook page I created that some of you maybe interested in https://www.facebook.com/FishingInConnecticut check it out _________________ Top 5 Favorite lures: Boo-yah Boo jig, Zoom Horny Toad, Rapala Husky Jerk, Berkley Power Worm, Senkos |

You should probably try bigger, dead bait for northern pike, instead of shiners. I've heard a lot of stories about 20+ pounders in Pachaug Pond. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I'm with Phil. Dead pond shiners or suckers on the bottom is excellent bait for bigger pike. |

I agree dead bait works awesome. I have tried big suckers and haven't caught anything yet. I'm sure it works but you are kind of eliminating the smaller pike with the huge suckers. _________________ Never Stop Learning |

I heard dead bait is better ill deff look into it thanks for the tips guys. On a side note do you buy the bait already dead or do you guys kill them yourselves, I know it seems stupid as a question _________________ Top 5 Favorite lures: Boo-yah Boo jig, Zoom Horny Toad, Rapala Husky Jerk, Berkley Power Worm, Senkos |

I have a bait tank in my basement to keep them alive but I do have the occasional die off so I just freeze them and use those. You can buy them dead already or fresh. I have heard of some guys put salt and garlic in the bag before they freeze them, I have never tried that but it might work out great. _________________ Never Stop Learning |
