sea run brookies. they are alot closer then you think!

I caught this fish last year in the dead of winter, a little west of me. Caught in freshwater, in visible sight of LIS (I was right above the last tidally affected pool).

I never took a scale and sent it to the DEP, because that is the only way to know for sure if it is a sea run.

In my original post before I edited it, i posted up my tricks and tips for catching these fish. It's a shame you guys weren't nicer, or else i would have shared that info with everyone, instead of taking it down and just pm'ing it to the OP.

thanks. it was taken with a real dslr, it was about 830 am, sun was shining too!

that little thing fought like it was a west coast real deal steelhead. fun as hell on a 4wt fly rod.

I should try to dig up my old pics of sea run fish from the Lower Connetquot river in LI. i used to fish right where it dumps into the ocean, and on brave occasion walk up the pipe under the road.......It was much more productive then sea run fishing in CT, 1 or more fish an outing was not unusual.

I"ll never forget the day i saw some old guy walking out with a sea run as long as his leg! had to be 15 lbs easy...

Don't chubs bury themselves in mud during this time of year?

that thing is a beast. when i have caught large ones they have had noticeably calloused faces. I'm assuming from digging under rocks/sand for food. All this talk about trout has me itching to drop a big squirmy thing into a deep cold pool.

Went out with TFP today. Missed 2 hits. Tried downstream. Missed 1 hit then on the next cast BLAMMO !!!
All fins intact. Wild Brown trout caught in brackish water! Sea run? I think so !
