Personally im staying off the ice til at least next Friday, but if you are planning on going out check your ice thickness every few feet (3 or so) and with the warmer weather even if i was going out myself I'd still be wary of less then 4, just keep your ears and eyes open if you're out there we don't want to have to read about anyone in the paper
Around me the ice isn't terribly thick in the first place and with my schedule i don't really have time to get up north _________________ current personal best - 18" 4lb. small mouth bass

I think it will be walkable but definitaly not safe. The warm weather is going to weaken the ice and itll be melting while youre out there. I personally wont go out this weekend cause i dont trust it at all. Warm weather, semithick ice (5 inches) and about 300lbs total of gear and man are not a good combination. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

Looks rough for this weekend, bigger lakes will wilt with the rain, since the main lake ice wasn't thick to begin with, and on smaller ponds the edges will kick out. Temps look like they're going to drop next week, and I'd like to think the damage will be rectified by next weekend, at least in the NW corner. I know a lot of tourney's coming up, Mt. Tom, strikes me as one, hope for cold weather. As for me, I'm off to Vermont.

I agree with NEF and androux. This weekend won't be safe. Wait til areas have about 3 or 4 overnight lows in the teens to lower 20s and daytime highs no higher than mid 30s. Precipitation, moisture, and wind are 3 others to keep an eye on. |

I went out today, two places and they were fine.
I just stepped two feet past the broken ice on shore (shore is VERY SHALLOW inches) and the rest was 4-5in
one other places i stepped about a foot and was fine
I wouldnt travel far to find out that the shore isnt safe to step out on though _________________

Well there were people out here on Beseck all day today. Might take a venture out and see what we've got first thing tomorrow. |

Despite the rain and fog and mist I was out on a local res on 4-6 inches. Had to get a good 4 foot plank to walk out but it as well worth it. _________________ "Au... Ger...! You know me. Chillin on the ice with my jigga's!"

You guys are kind of silly. a 6'' sheet of ice is not going to melt over the course of 2 days. Even places like Congamond are locked up, with over 4'' of ice. Use your head out there and make your own choice. Never take someones word for it. Anytime anyone asks me about the safety of the ice I just laugh and tell them they will def. fall in. Good luck out there! |

This guy is talking about waiting for the temp to fall to single digits and never getting above mid 30s all day. lol. When do you ice fish? 1 day a year up in Alaska? Last year was a complete anomaly. |
