Hi,
Started to tie up some weighted ice flies and jigs for trout and pan fish (10 to 18 size) .
Here are 2 styles I found to be effective:
Anyone here ever use ice flies for icefishing ?

Hi,
They work very well for perch -> But my favorite for perch is a "Smackin Jack" -> No bait requiered !
www.smackinjacklures.com/
I use mostly the smaller size and the hooks are ultra-sharp !
Last year "Cabelas" had them.
Watch the videos !
There is a similar lure called "Slabgrabber'.

I googled smacking jack and found out this guy Nate really likes them:

If I counted right, that's 62 fish. Not a bad day Nate. So Seadog, what kind of jigging action do you use with those things? _________________ PB LMB: 4lb 13oz

Hi,
Last 3 years I've noticed that Cabela's and Dick's have cut way way back on their ice fishing gear and tackle.
As an FYI:
Gander Mountain on the other hand seems to always have ample gear and tackle for all fishing seasons (Fresh and Salt).
They're a Mid-West founded outfit that has catered to the Great Lakes region, for decades, and carrys lots and lots of quality fishing gear and tackle that you won't find at Cabela's and Dick's.
Never been to a Bass-Pro so I can't compare.
Kittery Trading Post seems to be on a par with Gander !
Since I live in Winsted -> I can get to the Gander Mountain in Kingston, NY.just as easily as going to Cabela's -> Few additional miles, but worth the ride to me, and I can usually buy twice the amount of gear for the same money I would spend at Cabela's !

It actually seems like they are cutting their fishing dept. back to nothing. I agree with Seadog, Gander Mountain is the place to go. Only is I plan it as a full day trip. I go to the GM in Kingston, then follow 17 down to GM Middletown and follw 84 back into Ct.
Did you try Newtown Bait? |
