Hit Mashapaug late afternoon ( Had some time to kill ). Got on the water around 2pm.

Water was 70deg, still very clear. I fished the banks with everythings I had, NOTHING to show for it.

I decided to try a new jig & pig technique I learned from Mark ( Just4fun ).

Less than 2 minutes in the water (24fow) I hooked something large.

I fought this monster for 15 minutes, I seen it down about 12fow. Couldn't tell what it was other than big.

The wind was kicking up and pushing me around, forcing me away from where the fish was going, I got it to the suface but the fish was still to far way for me to see clearly what is was.

Now keep in mind I had my two Dalmatians on the bow with me so between not tripping on them, controling my draft from the wind and pulling this guy in, I was having a good time.

Well, needless to say my line snapped and it was gone. I was using 12lb test braid to.

later that day I made my way into one of the small coves and picked up 6 SMB all about 1.5lbs.

I will be going back again to get that monster, I just wish I knew what it was.

OooooooohhhhhhhNoooooooooooo!!!
You do realize that the state record bass came outta there don't you?!!!
Also, I do not believe that there are any pike or even pickeral in there!!

The biggest fish in that lake should be a bass or trout!

BTW,..if you're fishing those jigs with 12-lb braid you deserve to get your line snapped!! Get some 20# fluoro minimum!! (Also, even aside from the visibility thing,..braid is a lousy choice for rocky lakes like that because it has poor abrasion resistance! )

Mark,

NOW you tell me about the braid....! I used it just in case I got stuck in the rocks I can muscle it out..

Yes I know about the state record but I try not to think about it..

I never had good luck with fluoro, I keep snapping it.. I know I must be doing something wrong.

PS. Don't tell Jim about losing this fish, he will beat me up like he always do. At least this time it wasn't my hook set.

Good for ya Ron, that's what you get for using wimpy line you wuss! If you'd had taken me instead of the mutts I would have told you that line wasn't enough. Your biggest personal best lunker is now at the bottom of the lake laughing his a$$ off at you.

First of all let's get things correct. My puppies are not MUTTS! they are my babies..

Second my best so far was on Lake Pocotopaug ( 8lbs LMB ). Yes Sundays fish could have been bigger MAYBE.

Third, I wouldn't call 12lb braid wimpy line.. Surprised
