Stopped by the Housy in Derby ( O'Sullivans Island) today for some smallies. They weren't cooperative but the Schoolies made up for it. A school ran into the pond at high tide. No keepers but all around 15/18 inches.

Couple guys there reported night time keepers being caught on DB Minnows. Sorta looks like a Heddon Spook in shad color. Pointed tips on both ends and floats just about an inch or two under the surface.

So rvolkers their coming up the river.

Lots of yellow perch being caught in the pond.

They are very hot or miss, especially any of any size, stripers that is. I gotta get back out there. maybe Ill brave the elements and try it tonight if the water is running.

Were you using soft plastics, bait, or plugs for the schoolies?

Did pretty good tonight. I wont post how many fish I caught. Biggest was 34 1/2" and nice and chunky. Didnt replace the trebles that come with the SP Minnow and broke 1 off tonight but still brought the fish in on the rear treble as it was the front 1 that broke. Luckily I had a spare SP because even though I still caught fish on the broken 1 I noticed it wasnt swimming properly so swapped it out. The Northbar trick didnt work tonight, they wanted nothing to do with it at all. Never tried anything else as they were consistent with SP for 1 .75 hours. Had a lot of ice ups with the braid, getting time to hit the mono and maybe spray pam on the rod eyes.

Id rather not say if you know what I mean. Wasnt as active today but still manged to wrangle a few keepers and about 1/2 dozen schoolies. Again they didnt want to know anything about the Northbar but took many on a bucktail along with SP Minnow.

As soon as fall comes i usually stop fishing. If i wanted to go Saturday morning is it too late? What kind of lures/bait i would use? I,m interested in the derby area you guys are speaking of. BTW I love the site and all the great info!

Not necessarily! Did you read where they started? I stop there every day! I have yet to see a top water popper.

Read Rich's post. In the boats you're locating the schools and siting right on top of them. Housie, Thames, it doesn't matter. As the water temp drops the schools are getting super tight and not moving much. They are often so thick that it simply looks like bottom on my fish finder 10 feet above where it should be. Super Fluke or any other pearl soft body on a jighead is usually the way to go. You can feel the jig bouncing off fish on the way down until one decides to bite. If you don't get a hit, a few twitches on the floor usually does the trick.

I agree also, smaller plugs that dive deeper or bucktails or the rubbers weighted is the way!
