Me and my 2 friends fished the reservoir in Wethersfield. I used rooster tails and they used worms. I got a solid 12 inch largemouth on my third cast. My two friends caught a bunch of sunfish off the worms. About an hour later I got another largemouth off a black rooster tail. We then moved down to the bridge where my friends both got nice sized largemouths off worms. Overall a good day on the water. This is a great place to take a kid.

No black crappie? That's all I could catch the only time I was there. It looked like a good place to go panfishing through the ice, to me.

No icefishing allowed at the 1860 res., banned by the town due to inconsistent dangerous ice, that pond is spring fed and has thin ice in certain areas Crying or Very sad

No PeCO, no black crappie. Although one sunfish I caught looked like it could have been a cross breed. It was definitely a sunfish but it had a black crappie's design on its scales.

Thanks for the heads up, Dan.

Spring Pond is like that. It really is spring fed, so the ice isn't consistent. There's even a sign posted at the pond that says "No. . . Ice Fishing Allowed". However, since I used to be a lawyer, I looked it up and there's no town ordinance prohibiting ice fishing. I also spoke with the Director of the town's Recreation and Parks Department, who told me that he's told the Police Department to not enforce the prohibition. Last season was a bust, but I didn't see any signs of ice fishing there other than mine a couple of years ago. If it freezes up this season, I'll be out there. Very Happy

Bet you it was a Green Sunfish.

I find pumpkinseeds more fun than bluegills. Pumpkinseeds have the biggest variety of diet out of all 3 usual sunfish here in CT. More aggressive than bluegills but not as much as a redbreast.

Were any of the pumpkinseeds bluegill hybrids? Here's a pic of what they look like.

All across the country you find many bluegill hybrids. I've caught many bluegill/pumpkinseed hybrids and have also seen pics of bluegill/redbreast hybrids in the Northeast and pics of bluegill/green sunfish hybrids down around the Southeast and Midwest.
