Hi All,
Have been keeping a watch on the NOAA Hurricane Center site and "SANDY" looks like a real nasty storm.
If it's track comes in close to Delaware -> Thighten-up your pantyhose !
Could be a repeat of "The Perfect Storm" ... which I went thru and never want to ever again

A large cat 1 hurricane or strong tropical storm hitting our area on the 1 year anniversary of Snowtober is strange! I'm always keeping a close eye on Sandy's track, size, and strength.

Hi Michael,
Yes! The critical part of the Wx report is how fast the H pressure system + Jet Stream coming off the New England coast moves eastward which will open up a trough that SANDY can slip/sucked northward thru.
Same thing happened with the 1938 hurricane (Long Island Express) and Oct. 1991.(Perfect Storm).

Hi,
Talked to my friend today at the National Weather Center.
SANDY has moved ever so slightly to the East.
That is not good at all
If it moves even a tiny bit more easterly, then the storm track would put a landfall further north up the coast closer to NYC.

3 major players I'm keeping an eye on are....
Polar Jetstream
High and Low Block out in the Atlantic
Stalled frontal system around the Finger Lakes. |

Hi Michael,
Yes! The L pressure system will draw Sandy into the East Coast once its off Hatteras and its forward motion has increased a bit.
What I just received from my friend at NWS is the present Gulf Stream surface temps.
Lot of hot surface water SANDY will be crossing over east of Hatteras.
This has the potential for SANDY to strengthen before landfall and this hot water is what feeds these storms.
It's still a wait and see situation !

Hi,
Yup! .... As I strongly suspected would happen -> SANDY has re-strengthened into a hurricane going over the hotter Gulf Stream water.
At 10 knots (17 mph) of forward speed SANDY could gain additional force moving that slowly over the hot water.
We'll see if this occurs as it gets just east of Hatteras !
Then things will really get interesting when it starts its NW'ly swing into the coast !

That Gulf Stream moisture will deff strengthen Sandy and make her grow bigger!
With the counter clockwise rotation and the NW'ly turn it'll make, Sandy will draw lots of that moisture to the area bringing lots of rain! |
