Buddy Harvey and I took his canoe onto the private lake I usually report about. We were in the water by 4:30pm. Conditions were partly cloudy skies, temps in the 60s, and 5 to 10 mph winds with a few 15 mph gusts.

First we went to the area where I was hitting the yellows last time I was at the private lake. I threw the traditional silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4 while Harvey threw a silver Original Floater F-7 on one and the last remaining live alewife from the night before.

Pretty soon I had a fish on but lost what was either a nice perch or a 1 pound largemouth. Harvey then got a nice 10" yellow on the alewife.

Harvey continued with the F-7 on one rod and switched over to worms on another. I wasn't getting the action I thought I'd be getting with the JSR-4 so I switched over to a yellow perch X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6.

Harvey caught another 4 yellows and I caught a largemouth and a pumpkinseed with the XRSH-6.1 of the yellows came on the F-7 and the others came on the worms. 1 was a keeper.

We then started working other areas around walls, drop offs, docks, and branches.

Harvey switched over to a silver X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSH-6 which was pretty soon working for him. I got 3 more largemouths with the JSR-4 before switching back over to the XRSH-6.

As we both threw the XRSH-6, we were getting into the largemouths really well. Harvey caught a total of 7 largemouths with the XRSH-6 and 1 on a worm. I caught a total of 5 largemouths with the XRSH-6. 2 others came on the JSR-4.

We were then back onto land just after 6:30pm.

Largemouths we landed ranged from 10" to Harvey's 16" 2 pound 10 ounce lunker of the day. Most bass were in the 1 to 2 pound range with 2 others being 2 pounds 3 ounces and 2 pounds 6 ounces. Harvey's lunker fought more like a 4 pounder on his light action set up.

Pic was taken when the sky was darker than it looks. By 6pm things had quieted down with the wind.
