Hi,
Went to Mount Tom today with a friend to try for stocked Atlantic Salmon.
Got there at 12:45 PM.
Fished live golden shiners under slip bobbers about 4-5 ft down from shore - the beach area.
Plus casting some spoons.
Lots of big fish making a fuss all over the pond on the surface.
I caught 2 nice fat Browns -> each almost 2 lbs. apiece.
Last fish I caught was a nice Atlantic Salmon about 3 lbs. -> Strong hard fighting fish.
My friend kept getting teased all afternoon with fish surfacing/splashing near his rig but no takers.
Around 3:40 PM while casting a spoon he got clobbered on his ultralight rod (4 lb. test) by a 3-4 lb. Atlantic.
1st Atlantic he ever caught -> had to fight him easy on 4 lb.test but finally beached him.
Grin on his face was priceless !
While there we watched the air combat manuvers of a Bald Eagle and Ospery.
Eagle was harrasing the Ospery for the fish it had caught..
Was quite a show -> lasted a full 20 minutes !
Eagle finally got the Ospery to let the fish go and scooped it up.
Started to rain at 4:00 PM so we called it a day.
Bit of a dreary day but we had a lot of fun

I went there yesterday. Fish were jumping almost 5 feet out of the water. Big splashes too! Had some fish hit a fly but couldnt hook them. Tried a nightcrawer and nothing. Then a group of people show up and they cast their minnows. WIthin like 10 minutes they each catch a fish while ive been there for 5+hours. _________________ YouTube Channel: NorthEastFisherman |

Between the fight the salmon gave and the bird show, sounds like a nice day! |

Seadog,
The Ct wildlife dept.. (not sure what they are called.) they just did a type of class or lesson on Kokanees at west hill pond, they caught them in nets and were showing people the change they go through during spawning. The group they were showing had an acronyn called CARE. Made me think of you. |

what were the salmon caught on the lures or minnows? Been wanting to catch one for a while and looking into the right lures to get. Just dumped some casting spoons from mepps. There silver spoon gets great reviews. |
