I made one of my lunchtime fishing trips over to Keeney Cove on Monday. It had been a while since I was there. The fishing from shore hasn't been all that great this season so I wasn't very optomistic but I wanted to get out there. As usual there were several people fishing from the road. I was casting toward a laydown along the shoreline when my senko was hit by a decent fish. I reeled it in and it was a chunky 16" largemouth. Unfortunately I didn't get a weight on it.
A few minutes later I saw a big splash a few hundred yards North of where I was. I took a walk over to see if it was a bass. It turns out it was a 3+ pound largemouth. Unfortunately it looks like the splash was from an oportunistic pike or bowfin that took a chunk out of the gills of the largemouth. Nice fish! Too bad it was floating.
I'm just glad I got out and was able to land a decent bass! |

I'd be willing to bet that fish was gut hooked by a member of the bucket brigade or a senko ninja..... That place is getting ruined. _________________

I wouldn't doubt it. The bite has been tough there this year. The low water levels this year have a lot to do with it as does the tons of people that keep fish from there. I can't imagine eating a fish from that place. Anyway, I notice a huge lack of weeds in there this year as well. Hopefully it will get better. |

The amount of garbage on the backside of the tunnel is despicable! I've been fishing there for 20 years and have won thousands of dollars in tournaments from there and it upsets me to see it treated like that. The last year of the Call In Sick tournament I weighed in most likely the largest 5 fish bag ever caught in the River from there of over 26lbs. That wont happen ever again. The place needs a break. It used to be one of the best places in the River and now it's ruined by people who don't care. It's sad. _________________

Nice fish there dawg. I have to get out on that dang yak. I seem to want to do salt water much more this year and too afraid yo take that anywhere but the housy. Good thing is that the housy should be picking up again soon so I can start getting out on it again. _________________ There's a fine line between fishing....

I agree with everyone. That place is a disgrace. I love fishing there because I live close and its such easy access to the river. Everytime I go there I always shake my head at those people that just fish there all day and keep everything. I have not had much luck there this year with bass. |

It is a popular place because it is somewhere you can fish from shore and catch a good amount of decent fish. At least that's why I started fishing there during my breaks from work. Unfortunately for that same reason it gets hit by way too many people that don't respect the resource. It is a shame.
