Someone from the RI dep (i believe it was dep) told us that we could fish in RI with our CT fresh/saltwater license
We were fishing the ocean btw
Does anyone know if thats true for RI or any other surrounding state.

I suggest renewing ur NY license I am sure they are hard on people who dont have them and even worse to out of towners without one!!!

If you paid for a CT saltwater license it is reciprocal in several other states. I found out that Maine is another state that follows that rule. It does not give permission to fish freshwater however.

From the CT DEEP's Marine Waters Fishing License FAQs http://www.ct.gov/dep/cwp/view.asp?a=2696&q=443060&depNav_GID=1630#Reciprocity :
Quote:
Can I fish in federal waters or in another state’s waters with a Connecticut Marine Waters Fishing License (MWFL)?

The following is provided for general guidance only. Always check with the state you plan to fish in for the latest licensing requirements.

Federal waters: Yes. Connecticut MWFL holders will be exempt from the federal registry requirement. However, if you intend to take tunas, sharks, swordfish or billfish in federal waters, you must also have the appropriate federal Highly Migratory Species (HMS) permit. NOAA HMS website: www.nmfs.noaa.gov/sfa/hms/.

New York: Yes. However note the following text provided on NYDEC web site as of Feb 2012: “Connecticut and Rhode Island residents: Anglers that have a marine/saltwater fishing license from Connecticut or Rhode Island are allowed to fish in New York State waters that serve as boundaries with those states without having to enroll in the New York State registry.” For more information visit the NYDEC website: www.dec.ny.gov/permits/54950.html.

RI: Yes. RI DEM website: www.saltwater.ri.gov/

NH: No. NH Fish And Game website: www.wildlife.state.nh.us/marine/saltwater_license_FAQs.html

MA: Yes. MA DMF website: www.mass.gov/dfwele/dmf/recreationalfishing/rec_permits.htm

ME: Yes. ME DMR website: www.maine.gov/dmr/recreational/rechomepage.html

OTHER States: No, UNLESS that state does not have a marine or saltwater fishing license requirement. In such cases a valid MWFL (Marine Waters Fishing License) from Connecticut (or any other exempt state) will satisfy the federal registry requirement.

Can I fish in Connecticut's marine waters if I hold a marine fishing license in another state?

Yes. Under reciprocity agreements with Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York, anglers holding a valid marine fishing license in any of these states may fish in the marine district and land marine fish in this state (CT). Note that Connecticut residents must hold a valid Connecticut marine waters fishing license to fish in this state.
