I know I'm a bit behind in posting this, but I thought I would share a picture of this old girl I pulled out of Lower Bolton Lake this May. We were fishing early, maybe 1/2 hour after sunrise, and were getting a fair number of smaller bass on texas rigged or drop shot lizards. I decided to try my pike sized black spinner bait with silver blades and black plastic curly tail on the hook. Since we were in the deepest part of the lake, left of the boat launch and maybe 50 yds from shore, I was letting it sink until I was bouncing it off the sunken stumps. Around the six or seventh cast, I hit a snag, but the snag started pulling away from the boat. I figured I hooked a catfish, since it stayed down for a few minutes, but when it did break the surface I started shaking, it was largest bass I had ever hooked into! After another four or five minutes I had it next to the boat, but we had no net. What the hell, I would have jumped in for it, so I reached down and thumbed into the boat, and never having grabbed a bass that big before, I found out the hard way their "teeth" do more than leave a little scratch like a 2 or 3 pounder does. Anyway, I could tell she was really old from how beat up she was. We did a quick measure, 24", and she weighed 7.4 on my Cabelas digital scale. I had to hold her in the water for a couple minutes until she revived, and then let her swim away. I think this PB will hold me over for a good long time, but I will keep trying to set a new one! |

Awesome catch! Congrats!
Reminds me of my PB 8.1 pounder. 22" long but had a huge girth. |
