After no luck at Bunnells Pond, I went to the upper area of Beardsley Park.
Started off at the common bird feeding area with topwaters and an original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-8 but had no luck. Moved on up to where I usually hit the sunnies and perch but had no luck.
I decided to then head up to the ballfields and play around with a glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6. The retrieve I stuck with was constant jerking downstream. That retrieve with that lure had 1 fish going!
Caught 4 rock bass up to a chubby 7" fish.
Later I headed downstream to the bend where I've been seeing the 2 rainbows. First cast upstream and fish on! This fish was fighting nicely. As I got it closer it jumped and noticed it was one of the holdover rainbows! Right as I started getting it out of the water, it shook and came off the hook
Saw another holdover around and casted down towards it. Saw it swipe at the HJ-6 3 times but never grabbed it.
Around 6:30 I went to Glenwood Park to see if anything was happening. Saw a male and female black crowned night heron there which meant there were active fish. Caught a total of 7 stripers up to 9" and 3 whites with 1 being an 8" keeper.
Hit the road around 7:15pm |
