Hey guys, with all the great reports on the naugatuck for smallies I decided to try my luck on the derby ansonia line. I caught a few big yellow perch and a smallie with a #2 blue fox spinner. Then derided to throw the pop-R.......The second it hit the water, BOOOOOOOOM!!!, probably the hardest topwater hit I ever had in my life. It was a real fighter too it jumped 2-3 feet out f the water and pulled hard. Until he came out of the water I thought it was a schoolie striper. Keep in mind this was only a 12inch smallie, man do those things fight!

They do fight! I was in Derby on O'sullivans Island until the rain started. That was my first time. I'll definitely be heading back again.

A 13" 15oz smallie I caught 2 months ago felt like a 3 pound largemouth or a 5 pound brown!

We fish for em with a number of things in the lower farmington on the trout rods. 15-20 smb in a session is not uncommon, not to mention the additional perch, crappie, rock bass, etc, in great numbers. Most are 8-10 inches, with the occasional over a foot. They fight like absolute demons. Very acrobatic.
