I have felt so cooped up with no fishing over the last couple weeks that I just had to get out tonight. I had work at my on-campus job until midnight, so after I got out I went over to Mirror Lake and threw a few casts. They have wires running all around the surface of the water in a grid but many of the edges and some parts are open. At night it was hard to tell what was what so I stuck to spots I could see. I would say I literally threw about 9 casts and in that time I caught a little 8" dink in about 1 FOW and shortly after I got a nice 2lber. At this point I was satisfied just to see a fish so I head out after 15 minutes. I plan on doing a lot more fishing from tomorrow-Saturday.

I have caught 5 "living things" in about an hour of fishing between Wednesday and tonight! 4 said things were over 2lbs and 1 over 3lbs!

I went to UCONN and wish now that I had brought my fishing gear with me. THere are a lot of great spots around there. I would have never thought to fish mirror lake, I have heard all types of rumors about it being toxic, no fish, full of goose sh*t etc.
Have been meaning to make a trip up there again to fish/

| I go to uconn, and only have a 5 wt fly rod up here with me right now. I managed one bass on a dahlberg diver fly, at night last week. I noticed some very strange activity, I saw atleast three bass, swimming in inches of water, completely sideways right up along the shore. They were very lethargic, and I have never seem anything like it? |

Was it right in Mirror Lake? That is strange, but from my very limited experience there the fish do seem a bit odd to me. I think because not many people fish there, they may be a bit off from what we are used to. Now in all honesty I don't know a ton about bass behavior, but all the fish I've ever seen in there have kind of been just sitting around and not moving much. Even when they bit they seem very lazy about it. I remember the winter of my freshman year, I used to walk by where the small stream runs in and there would be about 50 bass just sitting by the moving water. They just sat there all winter. With that said, they are VERY fat. I caught 3 fish between 16-18" the other night and all of them had to be among the fattest fish I've caught all year. Here's a pic of the smallest one from Saturday night.
Even though I have had decent luck at night, I wouldn't say there are definitely a lot of "big" fish in there, because I have seen way more dinks than anything. I just think there is something about the night bite that draws the big boys out of hiding. And again, take everything I said with a grain of salt because I am no expert. These are just my thoughts.

| Yes, this was right in mirror lake...a few different spots around the shoreline, in the rocks right up on the bank. The fish almost seemed sick to me? Anyhow, were you throwing top water for these guys? |

They were hitting topwater, but never really hard enough to get the hooks. I got them between Senkos and Rapalas.
