Bob and I headed to Salmon cove first and landed a couple of lmb and white perch. We decided to rain on Phil and Mark's pike parade when I recieved a text that they were tearing it up in the canal. We traveled in and landed some more lmb and white perch but nothing of real size (except bob's incredibly large calico). We both did manage to hook up on huge pikes - but were shook off at net position... both times.

Something happened to the rapala phl lent me and I thought there's gotta be some way this can be applied to some people(esepecially those that talk on cell phones during a movie):

I think we waved to DCAJ on our way in the canal - sorry i didn't say hi, i think i had mouthful of crackers when i saw you.

Phil, thanks for the rapala that got the pike on for me as well as the lmb's.
Mark, it was nice meeting you!

Having (still) never caught a pike after 2 years of trying I might need to make the trek out there this weekend. I’ve tried & tried at Quaddick to no avail. Other closer options would be Hopeville or Patchaug… but the pike action certainly seems much hotter on the CTR.

Well as Jjay (Jason) had mentioned we also where on the river planing to meet up with Phil & Mark when we got the text they where in the water. We had launched earlyer from Salmon river launch and made a run straight up to the Salmon river through the weed flats. There was a local bass tourney going on so we where trying to duck the mad rush of boats. The morning look real promising fish riseing everwhere we looked but the bite was slow

the morning went on like this few bites here and there nothing big, buy the time we got the text Phil and Mark where in the water we where 2 miles in and had to slowly pick our way back down through the river as the tide had gone out and weeds where very thick now. After about what seemed hours of chopping weeds we hit open water fired up the big motor and the run was on to the canal passing a few boats on the way in, DCAJ was 1 sorry I didnt notice I was focusing on not running over crap, we realy need a gang sign or flag for even a decal for spotting forum guys. After a short travel we finaly met up with Phil & Mark first time meeting Mark hellava nice guy hope to head out with him again sometime. We dropped the rock to stay put as area was tight and wind had us drifting around abit Phil & Mark continued to pull fish as we rigged up then the sun broke through and the bite dropped right off to nada, we had missed it. Next few hours it was hit and miss as we did the long slow float out about half way out we decided to run back up to the top the sun was setting putting shade on the water good Idea bite back on.... Very Happy

All around the same size no monsters we both even manged to hook some pike but where unable to boat them hooks kept pulling free. Think we need to swap the small trebles for something a little beefer I even manage a big crappy

Jason even got a white perch that wanted the bait so bad hooked its mouth shut with all 3 treble barbs

but as allways time to leave when your haveing fun so it was cut off and run to the launch time ......................

When fishing artificials, I've had tons of luck with the jointed swim bait, especially the Sebile Swimmers. The pike will hammer the same stuff I typically use in the salt water. Often when fishing those areas discussed I'll throw out 1-2 large live (8-10" baits) lines on a balloon float (typically at about 3-4' and another on 8') while I work other areas with an artificial. I know it's a good fish if I turn around and a balloon is gone!
