Was great to be out, I've been working a lot. Anyway, had great night out with my son teaching him how to use a popper. WE practiced from shore before moving into the water. A couple of casts in from water, bam! slap! splash! A really hard, loud smack, and fish on! Nice bluefish! Great fight until I realized my son just cast over my line with a bluefish on! I'm always telling him to move further away, now he knows why. Lets just say I was lucky to land this nice 26" fat, fat blue! I had to walk to shore, after I locked down on her jaw him with my new fish grabber, with my son and the fish and the two rods to untangle and unhook the fish. That grabber works a lot better on bigger fish. "Wow, thats one of the biggest we've caught!" exclaimed my son. My son decided that was enough and he would rather play his gameboy and watch me catch more fish.
Awhile later I had another topwater explosion and another good fish on. Two big hits two, nice blues. Doesn't normally work out like that. As it got dark I had an explosion with a fish rocketing out of water like 8 feet, I've never seen a blue jump that high, it was smaller and shook the hook. Then I had a couple misses before another fish on. Still big, but not like the first. Todays bluefish were so much fun, they were all big enough to give me great little fights and all hit on topwater while using my chrome 3 1/2" popper. The blues were 20"-26". Great night, this is why I fish! |

It's nice to see that the topwater bite is on for someone. Now you're making me wish that I lived closer to the shore. If I did, I'd probably fish the salt, too. Nice! _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

I was out at the same spot; 2 small bluefish around 20" on the surface. There were tons of snappers out there, too. |

Thanks, I bought 2 super strikes lately, white and yellow, and they are both littleneck poppers, and so far they have been too big, but as the bigger ones move in maybe I'll pick up a blk/purple like you suggest, I've had my eye on that color at the shop |

you're welcome to ride with me. i live in Avon too (if your location is still current) and hit the shore a few times a month. almost always at night, however.
i focused on using pencil poppers this morning at sunrise and had a fish take a Mucchi (sp) blue over white but i couldn't set the hook. then i got a double swipe at a chickenscratch Tsunami sinker. no fish, but the thrill of topwater can't be topped! |

That's usually what happens when no one else is there. |

I guess u don't count the two english guys next to me or the two guys on the rocks, or you for the first hour and a half before I told u what I was using, and the small fish started flying around everywhere, I was just being trying to be nice, saying glad u finally caught a couple, guess I shouldn't have |

Seriously? I forgot about the other guys there . Glad I finally caught a couple after you told me what you were using? Please. Your little lure was attracting a couple more hits than mine. I don't broadcast every hit I get to the entire world. It's obvious you were using a topwater lure, just like I was using before I called you out into the water to alert you to the presence of the snappers there. |
