Does anyone have to wear a wrist brace while fishing? I can't even tell you how sore my right wrist is. Not only is it causing me to have to break between days of fishing (boooo!) but it's actually making everyday chores and activities, even simple things like latching gates and picking up items, very difficult. I'm thinking I definitely need some sort of supportive brace, but I'm not sure exactly what to look for. Any ideas?

ya it takes a little time to build up a fishing arm your new to the sport so unlike the most of us that been doing it for years it will take you a little time..but to answer your question yes you can get a wrist support for bowling that is fairly inexpensive and comfy to wear they come left and right hand models its worked for me in the past ...............theres also a few different casting styles you can use to reduce joint stress . This winter you can do wrist curls with a weight while your watching tv to build ya up for next seasion
if you get some free time 1 night after work I can meet you and your partner at batterson show ya some casting trix's I use for when my arthritis acts up chat a little fishing as well ...........
As allways anyone needs help drop me a pm ill shoot ya a phone number.....

Im used to flyfishing where you cant break your wrist or the cast is messed up so my wrist has never hurt me after fishing. Maybe youre casting too hard?

You can pick up a wrist brace at any drug stores, Walmart etc., but the one CVS on East Main in Meriden near the 691 and 91 ramps (Not far from Les' Dairy Bar - used to be an independent hospital store) carries just about every option. It's just one of those sacrifices we have to make!

One of the reasons I like split grip rod handles is that I often use a two handed casting motion. I pull the ball on the bottom of the rod with my lower hand as I cast with my upper hand. No soreness here. Wink

Just a little update, I'm not having much discomfort anymore! I guess I just had to build up some strength after all. Also, I do believe that I was probably casting too hard, and I've made a conscious effort to stop that. Thanks, all!
