After getting home from fishing with Mikeyinstfd and taking it easy for a bit, I hit the road and decided to stay local at Bunnells Pond and upper parts of Beardsley Park.

Started at the island facing the dam around 2:30pm and played around with lures like last time. Also saw 2 cookie cutters futzing around in the shallow weeds facing the park which weren't interested in anything. Lures I played around with included silver shad Jointed Shad Rap JSR-4, moss shad Crankin Rap CRR-3, olive crawdad Clackin Crank CNC-53, original pearl shad Flat Rap FLR-8, custom painted Original Floater F-9, copperhead X-Rap Shad Shallow XRSHSS-6, glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-8, and purpledescent Clackin Minnow CNM-7. Had no luck in all areas of the island and bass weren't interested in the Scum Frog in the shallow weeds.

Later I moved on straight for the rocks where I caught that 2 pound 15oz last time. Started off with the JSR-4 and caught an 8" bluegill with it. Played with a few of the ones I threw at the island and caught a 12" largemouth with the CNC-53. Decided to play topwater to see if anything would hit in the weedy are to the right of the rocks. That's when things changed.

First topwater out there was an old Luhr Jenson Woodchopper. Caught a 14" 1 pound 6 ounce largemouth with it in the weedy area.

Had 1 more explosion on the Woodchopper so then switched over to a chartreuse ghost X-Rap Popper XRP-7. Caught a chubby 14.5" 1 pound 10 ounce largemouth and had 1 swirl behind the lure. Next topwater was a fire shad Skitter Walk SW-8. Nothing in the weeds so casted out into the area I caught the 2 pound 15 ounce bass last time. On 1 cast I didn't see an explosion but felt fish take it under. Set the hook and this fish felt good. As I get it closer it jumps and lost it Sad Looked like it was in the 3 to 5 pound range.

Played around with all 3 topwaters a few more times before moving up to the Bunnells Pond Pequonnock River line where I had no hits.

Moved farther up to the narrow area of the Pequonnock between the Connector and Beardsley and stuck with those 3 topwaters.

Lost a small bass on the jump with the Woodchopper. Had a pickerel come shooting out of weeds while walking the X-Rap Popper before quickly losing the fish. Had a number of taps on the rear of the Woodchopper on 1 cast. Had an explosion on the Skitter Walk by what seemed to be either an aggressive largemouth or a decent pickerel. Eventually had the line snap on 1 cast with the Woodchopper which means I lost the lure. Once that happened I played around with the Skitter Walk a bit before calling it a day around 7pm.

Total was 3 largemouths and 1 bluegill with decent topwater action and losing the catch of the day.
