nice fish man...what kinda popper were u using?

I use a half a dozen small poppers(under 4inches) including 2 creek chub superstrikes-metalic and white, 2 atoms-1/2"and 3 1/2", a striper swiper, 2 smallest poppers that I forget the name on-they were collected at the reef on low tide-I just attached new hooks, and today the striper came on my skitterpop. They all work just depends what the fish want.
cool...I caught a couple nice blues on a silver creek chub last week....how come no gibbs or habs???

I have a two month old gibbs pencil popper, but I havent used it much, and haven't caught a fish with it, and I never tried habs.

nice... I lik a 2 oz Gibbs pencil in white or yellow with a 10 ft fast action rod rated for 2 to 4 oz... They r deffinitly the best come fall when the bass r on a strict adult bunker bite...

Yes, not often, so far this year I haven't seen any bunker at Penfield and I was having success with small lures only, nothing big, and I thought the pencil was to big given the size of the bait

Thanks Sam, I didn't eat her yet, she's in my freezer. Any good recipes? This is the first striper I've kept since I was a teen.
i just grill the fillets in tin foil with butter salt/pepper until flaky and moist then use lemon, i keep it simple because the stripe bass has tasty natural flavor

Sorry I couldnt respond with a recipe sooner.

But..

If you haven't eaten her yet, try this one. May seem weird but bare with me. Taste best with stripers for some reason.

Take your fillets, slap em on a plate, and pat em dry with a paper towel. Both sides. Really press on it to get as much moisture off as you can. This part is absolutely crucial. Next, coat the fillets in spicey brown mustard. Use this almost as your egg wash. Slather the fillets in a nice thin coat (told you it was odd). Next, dip em in bread crumbs. I like half panko half italian, but its up to you. Pan sear in some olive oil or butter on a med-hi heat. Cover in between flippin of you got that nice thick chunk. Golden brown, flakey and moist inside. It's phenomenal.

I like to coat one side with the mustard, put that side down in the bread crumbs, and then coat the other side. Less mess.

Don't knock it b4 ya try it Wink

Thanks, I'll try this next time
