Just a word of warning. When fishing at the pumphouse if a cop catches you, you might be in trouble. Your best bet is to park at the dead end in ansonia. There have been some nice largemouth pulled from there(3lb plus). Catfish, salmon you name it they all get stuck in there. |

Thanks for the warning.
The dead end you're talking about, is it a Col de sac with a fire hydrant in the middle of the road? I tried following those directions, but I think I messed up somewhere along the way. |

Great largemouth and smallmouth fishing. When I first went there I caught a largemouth bass on the first cast. Any fish in the naugy could be in there. The fishing there isn't always good though. Depends on weather. When it's raining and debris falls in the water it isn't good. You need to go there on a nice sunny day and use Gary Yamamoto worms as bait. |

Yep, spent many a days there. Lake and river. The river is loaded with bass, perch, catfish. I even got striped bass down there !!! The canal is also good to fish. I know many easy ways to get to the river. Been awhile and I'm sure most of our dirt dike trails are grown in now. There were days 20 of us be on bikes and fishing down there. Did I mention keg parties. I know the holy grail of how to access river. Go to Seymour Movie Theater parking lot. And just behind Dunkin Donuts, you will see a huge gully with a pipe spilling water from Fountain Lake. Walk down the bank and you will see a huge culvert that you walk through and under all 4 lanes of Rt8. At the end "BAM" , river. We used to ride shopping carts down it, but you better bail at the end, STEEP SLOPE. From Franklin St in Ansonia, head to the end of North or South Westwood Rd. and the paths should be somewhat visible down to the river. Below the dam is trophy trout area , 15 inch min. There is a fish ladder at the dam and they have counted many sea run trout going trough also. Park at Nolan Field little league field and paths are across the street to the right of the white house that belongs to buddy of mine. WORD OF CAUTION !!! Have seen homeless people living down and around there. I wound not advise going alone , you never know these days.
So many good memories down there. If you guys want to make a day of it, I'll show you the way. From the dam to back of the old Farrel"s , I know the river like the back of my hand. |

Found that gully behind D&D. You'll need a machete and chainsaw to get through that way. I did see the trail by the white house. How far down from there is the river? My knees just aren't what they used to be. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |
