After a short trip to the Seymour Quarry and talking with Stephan from the site, my buddy and I went to the Naugy at the rapids around 6pm.
My buddy was getting many hits and landed 4 smallmouths and lost a few all with a 2" chartreuse grub. My 3 main lures I played with were a brown trout Flat Rap FLR-6, glass minnow HJ-6, and 1" soft plastic crayfish. Caught 1 with each lure and lost a number.
Later once the bite died down we walked downriver to see if there were any other access areas. Found a nice deeper area at the lower end of the small island.
My buddy lost 2 and caught 1 with the grub there. I was into it with the brown trout FLR-6. Caught 2 largemouths and 2 smallmouths with the FLR-6. Also 1 redbreast with the crayfish. One of the smallies I caught did a 2 footer and fought on my new light action setup like a 2 pound brown. One of the smallies he lost grabbed a 2 1/2" FinS right as it hit the water before snapping his line.
By the time it was getting closer to sunset, we called it a day.
Here's one of my buddy's catches at the rapids. They were in the 6" to 10" range there.
This 9" smallie was my biggest catch at the rapids.
Here's the biggest catch of the day. 13" 15 ounce smallmouth which did the 2 footer and was a fighter.

Michael, it was nice talking to you yesterday. I went down to the falls on the other side of the river this morning. I'll post about the day we had later. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

I haven't caught an open water smallie in a long time and really enjoyed it with light action setup and lures. |

Guys,
I hit the same spot tonight at 5:00 pm. As soon as we got there my son got a 8" smallie on a chartreuse spinner bait, second cast. I then got the same size fish on my third cast. We waded downstream and Zach (my son) got a nice 14" smallie under the bridge. Then the bite dies just like that. The big one came out of the water two times before he was brought in. |

A pattern with the bite I noticed yesterday was you'd be hitting them for about 5 minutes. They'd swim away and then come back to the same area 10 minutes later. |
