Hello fellow anglers. I'm new to the forum. Great site for tips BTW. Thank you to all those that contribute.
I found Coe Pond on the map and was wondering if anyone here fishes it. If so, what's in there, how do you access it, is it worth the time to go try it out?
Thanks in advance. |

I live not far away! The Ansonia side is not accessible with out traversing private property and steep banks. The Seymour side is accessible through the Ansonia side of the walk way but it's gonna be a hike. I've thought of riding my bike through there but haven't had a chance yet.
It does look like pristine bass territory. _________________ Don't hold your farts in! They travel up your spine to your brain and thats where shitty ideas come from. |

I live in Seymour and never knew that existed! If anyone is going to make a trip in there I would love to join. _________________ The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad. ~A.K. Best |

Thanks for the info, Wannafish.
I'll have to scout it out after these storms blow through. I'll post up a report. |

Oh, man. I spent some time trying to find access to this little gem, no luck. I even tried to get in through that Ferrell(?) factory, and they have a guard at the gate. No access there either. It looks, from Google earth, like that would be the easiest access, but noooooo, no tresspassing allowed.
Wannafish, you say you can get in through the Ansonia Riverwalk? Is there a bridge over the river? I think that place would be worth the hike, considering nobody has access there. Unlikely that it's overfished. |

I have fished Coe many times. there is easy access and here it is.
1. Heading South, on South Main St in Semour (toward ans) take a right onto the street right after the Veterinary clinic. Follow to the end and take a left. Then take your first right and follow to end.....park at end of street. Access path on your right. You will find 200 yards of fishable shorline.
2. Right after Gabby's auto body on South Main in Seymour there is an access road down to the tracks and river. (You will need to find a place to park at one of the local businesses) Walkk down the acces road and go straight until you see the trestle and the pump hose. Stay to the left and walk past pump house. You will see a trail along the left side of the canal. Follow trail for 3/4 mile and you will hit the lake. The canal itself, which you can fish on the way is chock full of Crappie and bullhead!!
The fishing in Coe is decent. I have landed several three pounders out of there in recent years. Crappie, Largemouth, bullhead, bluegill, and there are some reports of smallies from the river beginning to take hold as well, although i have never caught one there. I fished it in June this year and caught 3 or 4 keeper largemouth........biggest maybe two pounds. Hope this helps fellas |

Thanks, Badfisherman!
I tried it this morning. Took that access road by Gabby's. Fished by the pumphouse for a bit, using a small curly tail grub. Lots of hits, didn't land any. Saw some fish jumping out of the water down the canal. Nice spot.
Then I attempted to make it to the pond, fishing the canal along the way. Tough going with all the brush and downed trees. Not to mention the place is INFESTED with spiders. Did I ever tell you how much I HATE spiders? Well, whenever I get a spider on me, the whole world knows it. I scream and dance like a little girl, arms flailing, spinning, running......it's embarrassing to say the least. This happened about 20 times this morning. I'm exhausted. I lost my expensive sunglassess somewhere during the hysteria to boot.
I'm glad I tried though. Next time I'll try the other access point.
I'll keep you posted. |

Sorry to hear Uly!!!
The other access point is literally a 1 minute walk to the shore. Give that a shot. Just park on the side of the road and look for the trail on your right.
See you bud |

No need to be sorry, sir. I love exploring new (to me) places. I'm just glad there were no witnesses. |
