... I went to Eagleville pond Dam... looks great for kayakers and ppl with small boats. Unfortunately the areas for shore fishing are very limited... lots of weed growth right near the shore.. stayed for about 15 minutes... left and went to Coventry lake...what a nice lake.... lots of people water skiing, jet skiing... the dock by the boat launch goes out pretty far... spent about a half hour or so there, had a nice big yellow perch follow my white mr twister grub but no bites... kept driving around and ended up at foothill pond at tallwood golf course... casted from the entrance area with my white mr twister grub and immediately caught a couple of small bass and the other strange fish, a white bass maybe? I lost my mr twister jig on the bottom of something and I only had my utility box so no swivels... I tied on my firetiger rapala ssr 3/16 oz and went over to the rocks and caught a couple of bass, a couple of those other fish and a very small yellow perch. On my way back to the car I stopped by the entrance again and climbed on the cement water entrance, caught a really nice yellow perch.
That fish that I catch there, kind of white, silvery, and strangely it bleeds from the lips... I've never noticed a bass bleeding from the lips... I'll have to google white bass maybe.
That was my day. Not bad, not bad at all. |

Got the same thing here at Beseck. I'm thinking white perch, but gonna google it myself. Been getting a few on big spinnerbaits here, even got one last night on my 3/4 ounce pike spinnerbait. Crazy. |

Well found out we have white perch here. Only one black lateral line, white bass have stripes like a small striper. Kinda look alike though. |

I googled white bass, white perch... this was neither... it didn't have a hump on it's body... kind of flat.. I was looking at the Dace from another post or even a bluntnose shiner, but they don't get very big. I think it's a dace or a family of it. Whtie perches and white bass have a hump like back and very profound fish lips... the mysterious fish doesn't.. It does fight pretty good fhough using 6lb test. |

the trick to shore fishing at Eagleville pond is to walk up that hill and down the train tracks about 1/2 mile - spots on your left as you head down the tracks and you have some nice fishin spots - but YES best for small boats and kayaks - I hope to float it on Sunday |

I remembered your post about the fall fish... kind of looked like that too.
Oh... I saw train tracks, didn't know if I could walk them though..it ended up being real hot anyway and I left there. Maybe in the late summer early fall I will go back there and try it. |

If you could get a picture next time you catch one, theres a good chance that i can help you identify it.
but...
since you, don't, got any more details about it? spines on top, shape and size of the mouth, horizontal or vertical stripes?
If it's not a white perch, my guess is either a) its something out of the shad and herring family, which is very unlikely. or b) that it's something out of the minnow and carp family.
There's a higher chance its a fallfish, as they're extremely common just about every stream you go to, as well as a lot of lakes. But it could also be one of the following:
Golden Shiner- Adults are generally a bronze or golden color, hence the name, but juveniles are silvery, and depending on water conditions, adults can be to, and if big enough, will readily take a small offering
Creek Chub- Commonly 4-6 inches, but can grow close to a foot in length, Similar to the fallfish, but can get a dark lateral line.
Rudd- Hasn't been an established population found in connecticut, but have been in surrounding states including new york. Very similar to golden shiner, but can be silvery, gold, or copper colored. Commonly 10-12 inches, but can grow up to 20 inches.
hope this helps. snap a pic next time _________________ ...of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy.

Your neighbor was probably talking about dace, but I think that Connecticut fishermen are really talking about fallfish when they say dace. _________________ Don't forget to wear sunscreen and don't litter! |

Why do you say that Phil? We had what we called dace in Mass, they looked like a big shiner. Unless those were'nt dace. I always thought they were though cuz that's what all us Massholes called em anyways. |
