Later in the day after Twin Brooks and killing some time by getting a haircut and something to eat, I went to the Wonderland of Ice. Had the glass minnow HJ-6 with me this time. Started casting just before 7pm.
The redbreasts weren't active like last time. A few hits on the steady retrieve but got more attention from them by giving the HJ a jerk or 2 before pausing and repeating it. Caught 2.
Saw a nice bass at one of the spots but before I started casting with a Creme worm it was gone. Still tried throwing the Creme worm and did a few different retrieves but no bass.
Next was Glenwood Park. Had that HJ-6 ready for action.
Spent about 45 minutes there and was into it better than last time. Once the sun was down a blitz started near the first dam. I was into the small stripers like crazy with that blitz going!
Total was over 10 stripers, 2 largemouths, 5 whites, and 1 yellow perch. Stripers ranged from 6" to 13". The yellow was 7" and the largemouths were 5" with full stomachs. Whites ranged from 3" to 7.5".
Even though I caught more stripers, the white perch seemed to be the more aggressive ones. They would hit the lure and fight harder than a striper their own size.
The retrieve that had the stripers going later was constant jerking while reeling at a slow steady pace. |
