After a lousy day at Twin Brooks Park and not getting into any hits on the bottom at Bunnells Pond, I stopped at the lower freshwater tidal area of the Pequonnock at Glenwood Park.
First cast out with a glass minnow Husky Jerk HJ-6 and caught one of those baby stripers.
I could smell the bait they were chasing and later saw the bait dancing out of the water with breaks on the surface.
As I continued for about 30 to 45 minutes until 8:30pm, I caught a total of about 10 stripers no bigger than 10", 2 white perch no bigger than 6", 1 golden shiner, and a chubby 6" largemouth that seemed to be feeding on the shiners as well.
Every cast I'd make I'd get a number of hits before setting the hook. Stuck with a steady retrieve and could see those white and silver flashes going crazy after the lure.
All were C&R
The HJ-6 has also been my #1 snapper lure for years now. While snappers are feeding on the silversides and other small minnows, the HJ-6 comes in handy. I've outdone Kastmasters and snapper poppers many times.
Other than the fish action, I also got to see some fighting and arguing between green and black crowned night herons. The black crowns were the ones wanting the area to themselves. Both types were feeding on the shiners after sunset when the stripers pushed the bait shallow. |

Glenwood Park stretches from the intersection of Glenwood Ave and Chopsey Hill Rd to the northbound 25/8 on ramp on Chopsey Hill. It's the one with the tennis courts facing the on ramp. Easily visible from Duchess. |

Right by Park City Ford and the DMV. Oh and have you ever tried Brewster pond, Wooster park, Sucess lake, Pecks Mill pond, or Motil pond.

I've had thoughts about heading up to those old lakes and ponds. Anything in them besides sunnies? |
